Proclamations & Throws

Most Mardi Gras Krewes have "throws" that they hand out during parades and the Krewe of R.U.M. is proud to carry on this long standing tradition. We take pride in our throws, because we spend a lot of time making many of our throws by hand. In the tradition of Iris (flip flops), Muses (purses), Zulu (coconuts) and other parades that hand make their "signature throws, we too make up a limited amount of special throws each year to the delight of the crowds.

This year (2018) we will have hand painted and glittered Dinosaur Skeletons to go along with our theme. If you really want one of these special throws, make sure you yell out "Krewe of R.U.M., we want Dinos!" as loud as you can.

Our proclamations are folded and sealed with our Krewe's Logo (like the one below):

2018 Throws

This year, we spent more time to put together more throws (over 10,000) to make sure the Krewe of R.U.M. made a statement. We did!

I think we had some of the best throws in Delusion, hell all of Mardi Gras, thanks to all of the Krewe members that worked so hard making so many amazing throws.

The theme for Krewe Delusion this year was "Pay to Play". Our original idea was to create some form of money that signified paying to play, but we decided to focus on the sexual predator scandals that highlighted 2017 and was one of the main issues in the news.

Just a few of the 4,000 $100 bills we made

Just a few of the 4,000 $100 bills we made

We created four different $100 dollar bills, each with their own accussed sexual predator on the front (Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, Donald Trump & Kevin Spacey). We then drew a circle around their heads and put a line diagonally across their faces as a symbol of "No!". And of course, we glittered them.

On the back, we took a quote from each (or in Spacey's case, one of his characters) and then followed it with a quote from a woman offsetting or counter-acting their message. We wanted to cancel out "pay for play" and this was our main message from our Krewe.

We had boxes and boxes of glittered up Dinosaur skeletons. It was quite a production to get over 1,300 of these made, from Krewe members all around the country.

Someone came up with the idea of glittering dinosaurs, but we did not want to make "Predators" cute, so we found some dino skeletons and decided that this was the way to go and we started making lots and lots of glittery dino skeletons. This was our most popular throw and lots of kids along the parade route came home with one.

Stickers & Magnets

Another popular throw was our stickers and our magnets. In fact, if you are reading this now, it very well could be because you saw one of our stickers or our magnets and you came to check out our website. We handed out 2,000 of each.

Our proclamations are the one throw that gets made every year, no matter what the them. You can see the contents of our proclamation at the beginning of this section, but this picture (to the left) shows how they looked.

Printed on parchment paper, each one was tri-folded and then sealed with a red wax seal with our logo on it.

We made a lot of jello shots (and by "we" I mean Nacho, lord of Jello Shots). Make sure you look for the guy with 9 1/2 digits and scream "give me a Jell-O Shot Nacho" when we roll by...

Last, but not least, we made well over 1,000 jello shots. These aren't your normal frat party jello shot, these are a take on our signature cocktail for each year. This year we made our jello shots from Old New Orleans Rum, Gingeroo, fresh ginger juice, bitters and lime jello.

If you see us roll in future years, make sure you holler out "Jello Shot!" very load and we'll give you one (if the Krewe hasn't eaten them all yet).
